ART BRINGS HEALING TO PADUCAH'S
LOWERTOWN ARTS DISTRICT
Emily Jane Butler |
Integration and collaboration define Paducah's LowerTown Arts District in more ways than one. The various art forms live and work together in this community, including visual arts, spoken word arts, performing arts and music. However, one thing sets this thriving arts community apart from others in that art is also used for emotional and physical healing.
The LowerTown Arts District in Paducah is home to a variety of holistic health professionals including a Certified Holistic Health Counselor, Emily Jane Butler.
Butler recently moved to the LowerTown Arts District in order to focus her attention on her passion--art, nutrition and wellness. Butler received a bachelor's degree in art and Spanish from Hanover College and her certification as an holistic health counselor at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in Partnership with Columbia University in New York City.

Butler collaborates with other holistic health professionals in Paducah and does phone consultations from her home, drawing from a national database of clients.
"I really believe in the field of Integrative Medicine," said Butler. "When I saw on www.paducaharts.com all of the offerings the city had in this field, it showed me the direction this city is going. I saw a great opportunity for my career in Paducah."
An initial consultation with Butler includes an informal discussion on the client's health history, health concerns and future health goals. Clients discuss ways Butler can partner with them as they journey towards a healthier lifestyle.
"The goal is to help people integrate healthy habits into their lifestyle. It's not about will power, restrictions, or counting calories," said Butler. "I teach clients how to cook simple, healthy meals with foods that promote health. I also teach them how to read food labels and to be a smart shopper."
A simple kitchen cleanse educates the client on how to organize and stock the kitchen for healthy living.
Butler came to Paducah in order to create art, while still working as a health professional.
"Paducah is a place where you can transform yourself through art. You can use art to transform the community and bring change," said Butler. "There is a strong sense of community among the artists in Paducah. People are hungry for that. You can always feel that connection here."
