Generous Spirits Soar in the LowerTown Arts
District and Historic Downtown Paducah
|
PADUCAH, Ky.—During the month of February, purchases made in Paducah's LowerTown Arts District and historic downtown will benefit the American Heart Association (AHA). February is National Heart Health month and local business owners and artists are doing their part to spread the word.

"In my three years of working for a non-profit and, more specifically within the non-profit arts realm, I have found that the key to survival is to create and maintain positive relationships with other organizations. We all have to aid and support each other or we will not thrive," said Landee Bryant, Executive Director of Maiden Alley Cinema.
Non-profits are feeling the effects of a down economy and are looking for ways to continue funding the services they offer to this community. Downtown businesses and LowerTown artists want to help the AHA to continue their efforts to raise awareness of the nation's leading killer, heart disease; and to educate the public on ways to prevent and stop the disease.
"Being a non-profit ourselves, we understand the difficulty in fundraising and trying to stay on budget," said Lisa Lauck, Director of Marketing of the Carson Center. "Especially with the state of our economy right now, we need to help each other as we all have a vital role to play in our community.
The Paducah Renaissance Alliance, the local arm of the national Main Street program, serves the community through promoting economic development in Paducah's historic downtown and the LowerTown Arts District. The organization partnered with nineteen businesses owners and artists in the districts to raise funds for the AHA during the month of February.
"Downtown business owners, and artists and merchants in the LowerTown Arts District, are sympathetic to the trials local non-profits are encountering in terms of funding now," says Jessica Perkins, marketing manager for the Paducah Renaissance Alliance. "With February being Heart Health month, it made sense to do something to help the AHA to promote its Go Red program, while offering consumers an opportunity to see the money they plan to spend already also benefiting a good cause."
The AHA is enthusiastic about the generous response of the merchants, restaurants and artists in the community.
"Dollars raised benefit the community, both locally and globally," said Marc Jennings, Communications Director for Kentucky's division of the AHA. "They contribute to the advances in heart disease prevention and treatment that help people here and everywhere to live longer, stronger lives."
Each business, restaurant and artist developed a promotion to raise money for the AHA. Non-traditional businesses have developed incentives to get the business community involved, as well. One such group, iList Paducah, a local resource for events and happenings, encourages involvement from local businesses and individuals.
"We especially like this promotion because we can provide new advertisers and the AHA with a very easy and effective way to enhance and expand their Web presence — which is absolutely essential these days," said Mary Thorsby of iList Paducah. "In February, when a business, organization or individual purchases a year-long sponsorship with us we'll donate ten percent of the fees to the AHA, plus we'll provide the AHA with its own sponsor spot. So new advertisers will significantly boost their Web presence, and they'll help the AHA to do the same."
The promotion kicks off February 1, with each participant selling items which will benefit the AHA. A complete list of promotional offers is listed below. For more information please contact Jessica Perkins at 270-444-8649 or e-mail her at jessica.perkins@ci.paducah.ky.us.
