"On Sunday morning, September 14, after the high winds of Hurricane Ike hit, we walked home from Etcetera Coffeehouse to find a tree resting on the roof of our house. It was a huge 4-foot in diameter hackberry tree! We called Johanna Rhodes of Etcetera to see if she knew anyone who could help us.
"Within 15 minutes, people began to appear. Allan Rhodes, Mark May and Sonny Ridgeway brought chain saws. Teresa Perry came prepared to do whatever she could — and that was a lot, from finding a fork lift to covering the opening in the roof and at the broken window with a tarpaulin.
"Our next-door neighbor and other neighbors pitched in, including people we had never met. People from LowerTown came by to see what they could do and stayed to help.
"Rodney and I are deeply moved to have received such kind and generous help from so many!

"On Sunday morning, September 14, after the high winds of Hurricane Ike hit, we walked home from Etcetera Coffeehouse to find a tree resting on the roof of our house. It was a huge 4-foot in diameter hackberry tree! We called Johanna Rhodes of Etcetera to see if she knew anyone who could help us. "Within 15 minutes, people began to appear. Allan Rhodes, Mark May and Sonny Ridgeway brought chain saws. Teresa Perry came prepared to do whatever she could — and that was a lot, from finding a fork lift to covering the opening in the roof and at the broken window with a tarpaulin.
"Our next-door neighbor and other neighbors pitched in, including people we had never met. People from LowerTown came by to see what they could do and stayed to help.
