Kendra Thompson

Kendra Thompson
, 36, is most definitely one of Paducah's hottest single gals. She works for Anesthesiology of Paducah — but make no mistake, there's nothing sleep inducing about her! She'll be one of the Carson Center's Wine & Auction volunteers, May 15 and 16. So keep an eye out for her — extra points if you call her Bunny.

Kendra Thompson, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! You've got the greatest outfits! And I love your hair! Where do you get everything?
I shop a lot at The Limited, Gap and through the Victoria's Secret catalog. I even find great shoes at the Victoria's Secret catalog!

And that haircut! It's darling!
Thank you! I go to Stephanie Ramy at Great Expectations. It's a little bit of a controversy, because I'm good friends with Alvin of Al's Ratt-n-Roll!

You're very Carrie Bradshaw-esque! Along with looking fabulous, how do you spend your days?
I work for Anesthesiology of Paducah. It's a private company. We have five doctors and 20 certified registered nurse anesthetists who put you to sleep before you go into surgery. We practice at Western Baptist Hospital.

Kendra, I can't imagine anyone falling asleep around you!
Ha! I'm actually the insurance person. I do all the coding for patients' diagnosis and procedures. It's a good job.

OK, so here's what everyone wants to know. Do doctors make good dates?
I wouldn’t date them. I'm sure there are good doctors to date out there — if you don't want someone around that often! They're always at the hospital and on call. They work holidays and weekends, and they're always tied to their beepers. Their job is their life.

Sounds like you speak from experience!
Well, I've never dated a doctor in our practice — they're like my brothers! But in general, a doctor would not be my top pick. And most of them are married already, anyway!

So you're volunteering for the Carson Center's Wine Tasting & Auction!
Yes, I'm excited about that! It's going to be a great event. Tickets are still available for the auction Thursday night and the dinner Friday night. I hope everyone comes. It's a great cause.

Are you from this area?
Yes, I grew up in Livingston County. In Hampton. You can stand at one end and look at the other!

Did you graduate from Livingston Central High School?
Yes, and then shortly after that, I fell in love and got married. We dated for five weeks and got engaged!

Oh, Lordy! That's some kind of speed dating! What did your folks think?
They were OK with it, if that's what I wanted to do. My brother and sister — they're twins — weren't so sure.

How long were you married?
Seven years.

And what happened?
It just didn't work out. He's remarried and has a beautiful family. They're here in town. We're all friends.

Kendra, that's so cool! How did you pull that off?
We just decided Paducah is too small for us not to be friendly with one another. So it's all good.

What kind of fella are you looking for?
I want someone who will let me be me and not try to change me. I also want someone who's very spontaneous and honest.

Where do you meet folks?
I love the 20/30 Group and I recently joined the Yeiser Art Center.

Oh! We featured the Yeiser's director Landee Bryant as one of our first iDates!
I know! I've read them all! I went to the Girls, Gallery and Giving wine party there awhile back and decided to join. It was such fun. There's another one coming up Monday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. Guys are totally invited to come, too.

Is it hard to date in Paducah?
Well, it seems like I've made a lot of friends with some great guys. But you can't date your friends.

You can totally date your friends! Why wouldn't you date someone you already like?
Dating your friends could be tricky. I would hate to jeopardize my friendship with someone over a few dates. And actually, I spend a lot of time working on my duplex. I live in one side and rent the other. Most of my free time now includes yard work!

Wow, Kendra, that's great! When did you buy a duplex?
I bought it about five years ago, just after the divorce. I'd been renting, and then this duplex went on the market. It stayed on the market for about a year and a half before it was marked down. I was a nervous wreck, but I bought it. And it's worked out fine.

And you have a roommate!
Yes, I have a little parakeet. His name is Mr. Bird. Real original, I know! He was a gift.

Does he talk?
No, he sits there and chirps. And admires himself in his little mirror. I always leave the TV on for him during the day. He watches a lot of Channel 5. Everybody knows Mr. Bird. He's probably a girl. That's how my life runs.

Hah! Speaking of girls, I hear you have a special trip coming up!
Yes, I'm trying to get a girls' trip together for Mexico. So I'm recruiting some fun gals to go down there and drink Mai Tais or whatever.

That sounds very dangerous! Count me in!
Right on!

OK, so let's get to it: Bunny Jo?
Bunny has always been my nickname. My middle name is Jo. I don't have any reason behind Bunny. I just grew up being called Bunny. People in my hometown thought my real name was Bunny Jo. I guess my mom and dad came up with it. My sister still calls me up and says, "Hey Buns!"

And Poindexter?
That was my maiden name. After my divorce, people would ask me why I didn't take my maiden name back. Would you really want to go back to Poindexter?

Well Buns, I think you're fabulous with any name! Hop on, Bunny Jo! See you at the Carson Center!
