iList Paducah

iLove it

Happy First Anniversary, iList Paducah!

Acquaintances-turned-business partners: Mary Thorsby and Nikki D. May of iList Paducah and iList Media LLC.
It was one year ago today that two acquaintances, both new to Paducah, recognized an opportunity and decided to give it a go.

It seemed to us that Paducah could use one place to publicize all the amazing events going on in our amazing community. By listing everything in one big calendar, we thought, folks could always find something fun to do around town. Plus, if anyone wanted to schedule an event, the calendar would show what's already in the works – way in advance.

And what better way to do all that than on a Web site?

I know how to write stuff. Nikki D. May knows how to design stuff. We knew one another because we're neighbors in LowerTown. That's enough to build a business on, right?

So we put together a prototype, shopped it around to a few fine folks, gathered up some helpful feedback and launched iList Paducah: Your Invitation to Everything smack dab in the middle of Quilt Week 2007.

A Successful Launch!
So here we are, exactly a year later, and we're thrilled by the response! Word is out, folks are using the site, we receive numerous event listings each day and we hear lots of nice comments about how event planners are seeing a larger turnout thanks to the extra publicity on iList Paducah, as well as on our blog.

Folks are making new friends at the events they read about on iList Paducah and even forming and using the site to publicize new groups, like the very successful new 40/50 Group.

Please keep your events and news coming in! And please help us spread the good word about iList Paducah.

Share the Love with Our Sponsors!
We couldn't do the site without the support of our sponsors. You'll see their logo spots on the right of our home page and our weekly email. And we've recently introduced banner spots strategically placed on the home page, too, to help promote particular events.

Please click the logos to visit our sponsors' Web sites. And, even better, please purchase their products and services. iList Paducah sponsors are the best, most progressive businesses in town! We very much appreciate their support.

Thank you, everyone, for a great first year! If you have ideas for how we can make year two even better, just send an email. We love to hear from you!

Now, let's meet the team:

The iList Paducah team, left to right: Patience Renzulli, Laura K, Sam I Am, Nikki May, Bruce Brockenborough, Mary Thorsby, Jeff Nash, Jean Rhodes, Lew Jetton and Aynex Mercado.

Mary Thorsby
OK, well, this is me. I moved from San Francisco to Paducah in December 2005 to marry a super cute fella. I write most of what you read here, including our blog. I also write a bunch of corporate stuff, but this is way more fun. And, I write a Web column for the Paducah Sun's new Four Rivers Business Journal, which debuts tomorrow, Thursday, April 24. Have some scoop or a question? Email me
anytime.

Nikki D. May
Nikki D. May moved from Atlanta to Paducah in 2003. She is an amazing fine artist and fabulous Web designer. Her work in encaustic is featured in galleries, magazines and Web sites across the country. Nikki was IBM's graphic design queen until deciding to devote her life to her art and to hot Web sites like iList Paducah. She can create a great site for you, too. Have a look at her design and art portfolios and zap her an email!

Jean Rhodes
Jean Rhodes splits her time between proofreading for iList Paducah, slinging coffee at Etcetera Coffeehouse and skating for the Meltdown Town Derby Dames, where she's known on the track as Dorothy Horrible. She's pretty good at: long-distance driving, making coffee and pie-baking. She really likes: medium roasts, grippy wheels, all of her cats and pretentious literary magazines. Jean dropped out of college three times for Etcetera and/or her boyfriend, and doesn't at all care what we think about that.

Jeff Nash
Jeff Nash is the driving force behind the creative service known as J. Nash Photography. The really beautiful photos on our site are his – the ones that squeak by are mine. We call on Jeff for some of our iDate and special shots like our iList Paducah group photo and some individual shots. He's famous for his "impressions" black and white portraits, his unique style of wedding photography and super-cute kid photos. Set up your appointment by calling 442.9581 or emailing info@j-nash.com.

DJ Urban Kobbb
Businessman by day, and DJ when the mood hits him, DJ Urban Kobbb has been a music fan since the Jackson 5. For reals. Simply sing a little phrase from any song written between 1970 and today, and he can tell you who sings it, even if it's Chilliwack. Actually, he likes this version better. DJUK, also known as Bruce Brockenborough, writes about groups he finds interesting in our iList Playlist feature. He also shares his favorite recipes as Chef Alben Parsley in our iDine feature. I'm especially fond of him. We're very happily hitched.

Laura K.
Guest writer lovely, lovely Laura K. is our resident fashion expert. She wrote this for us a few weeks ago. Standing 6'2" in her trademark high heels, this model and mom shares her gorgeous sense of style as marketing director of Green Turtle Bay resort. Check out her blog where she navigates the docks around the bay without even snapping a stiletto! When she first heard the idea for our site, she immediately volunteered to write for us. For free. We love her.

Patience Renzulli
Guest writer Patience Renzulli is an author, blogger, WKMS commentator and human servant to nine blue-ribbon-winning Whippets. She lives in LowerTown with her dogs and her very kind, tolerant husband and is working on a new novel. If you like dogs – and even if you don't – you'll love reading her hot-selling Mama Pajama Tells a Story. The first edition is sold out, with copies selling on eBay for more than $150. You can get the second edition at Market @ 315, Gallery 5 and Bebe's Artisan Market. She wrote this for us last year. For free. We love her.

Lew Jetton
Guest writer Lew Jetton regularly performs with the very popular 61 South. He also writes a fun blog. When he's not rockin', Lew keeps the marketing rollin' for the Paducah Area Transit System and writes a second blog to promote public transportation. He wrote this for us for Valentine's Day. For free. We love him.

Aynex Mercado
I saved the best for last. Aynex Mercado does all sorts of things for iList Paducah. But mainly she just makes us laugh. She's a world-famous quilter, an excellent designer, a blogger and she produces very creative videos. She's making us very sad, though, because she's leaving Paducah in May. I'm hoping if enough people email her, she'll change her mind.
