Fred Paxton 5K Fund Run Set for July 19!

Krissie Golden (above, left) led the pack of 20- to 24-year-old women runners in last year's race. She's pictured with financial adviser Lydia May of UBS, which helped sponsor the event.
Whether you walk, wheel, run or go piggy-back, you'll be a winner in the Community Foundation Fred Paxton Fund Run for Charities! The big 5K event is set for Saturday, July 19, in Noble Park. Register at Shelter 10 starting at 6:30 a.m.; the race begins at 8 a.m.

The best thing about the whole thing? Besides getting a little exercise with all the other super-cute participants, you'll help the event raise some nice money for 17 local organizations.

Here's how it works. Download the registration form. On the donor page, write in every organization (use the list below as the form is missing a few) that you'd like to raise money for, and decide how much you'd like to give to each. Here's a hint: the more, the better.

Then write a check to the Community Foundation — or simply donate all your Microsoft stock — and send it in. Include your race entry fee as $5 of that will go to the organizations, as well.

The Community Foundation will match all the donations up to $10,000 per organization, up to $100,000 overall.

So, for example, let's say you and five friends each give $1,000 apiece to, say, the Merryman House. That's $5,000. The Foundation will match that and, voilá, a $10,000 check finds its merry way into the Merryman House's own endowment fund account, creating extra interest for the organization to use to, you know, save people's lives.

You can give as much as you like to as many organizations as you'd like — and karma extra points if you encourage others to do the same.

So there you go. Couldn't be easier.

Here's a list of the organizations:
