If you missed Miss Behave last weekend, you missed what DJ/Promoter Extraordinaire Tony Foo Yong calls the show of the year. There’s no doubt about it, the Miss Behave show at Renaissance Lounge, 3100 Broadway in Paducah, was an unqualified success. Many showed up to see Paducah’s best DJs from the Cosmic Vibe Alliance and the fresh faces of Jen Z and DJ Karizma from St. Louis. None were disappointed.
Pete Pan got us started in the beer garden with his unique brand of chill with a world music influence. Pete and I traded off throughout the night, sometimes because one of us could use a break; other times because my software decided to crash. Look for Pete and me to collaborate more, as we found our styles and tastes to blend as well as his best beat-matched tracks.
While Pete and I were doing our thing outside, Purvis (right) started things going inside. With Purvis’ deep house beats and the Cosmic Vibe Alliance light show, Renaissance transformed into a rockin’ dance club. It’s hard to believe that only an hour earlier, folks were enjoying a peaceful meal from the fine kitchen at Renaissance.
By the time that Purvis handed the show over to Reick Havoc (left), the crowd was ready to pick up the pace. Reick brought a Latin/house mix to his performance that hit the spot and set the tone for a big night of clubbin’ in Paducah.
If you haven’t seen G.I.J. (right), no description of his shows by me could do him justice. J. has a very high energy level behind the turntables and, quite frankly, makes me tired just watching. G.I.J.’s goal is to shake something loose from the walls every show, and he came pretty darn close Saturday night with his bass heavy electro.
Jen Z (left) came to the show with a big reputation and backed it up by keeping the dance floor full and the crowd thrilled. She's no less than the real deal. Go to clubs in Atlanta, LA or New York, and you won't see a better show than what Jen Z gave Paducah.DJ Karizma (below right) has charisma, but her appeal goes way beyond that — she is very good at laying down the house music and filling the dance floor. At one point, with a break into Don’t Fear the Reaper, she had me looking for my cowbell. Let’s face it, when Karizma gives you the fever, the only cure is more cowbell.
Awesome show, ladies. In closing, I have to thank the folks that made Saturday a great show for me. Tony Foo Yong and the other Cosmic Vibe Alliance DJs did everything they could to support me and make sure my energy and music kept rolling. Herbie Emerson of Renaissance was a wonderful host and made everything easy.
The biggest thanks of all, however, go to the friends and family of iList Paducah, who came out in big numbers to support the guy who DJs “when the mood hits him.”
